Mondays. Bleh. The only thing good about today is knowing that sweet, sweet metal exists in the world. If I can’t get my face torn off, then what’s the point of life? Nothing, that’s what. I spend each weekday looking forward to Fridays and Saturdays, because now that we’re almost out of winter and bands are coming off of hiatus, that means shows, shows and more shows! I missed a badass metal show Saturday night at Live at 212 because of a soul-sucking migraine. It was Arta’sin’s album release show, and I was super pissed that I had to miss it. I heard they kicked all kinds of ass, and that makes me proud. If you haven’t yet, check out their new album, “Circles”. I haven’t heard it yet, but I’m a huge Arta’sin fan so I bet it’s the bees fucking knees. Congrats to Rico and the boys for being fucking awesome and putting out an album. The amount of work that went into that should not go unnoticed.
Since it’s Monday and we have to make it through this week somehow, let me fill you in on what’s happening this weekend in Maine’s rock and metal scene. Keep your funderwear on and sit down.
Saturday, March 11th is the day, my friends. You’ve got a few options if you’re craving a good old-fashioned face melting. Strong Arm Concerts is putting on one helluva show at The Cage at 99 Ash Street in Lewiston on Saturday. Cosmic Bong Destroyer (CT), Bloodborn, When Muppetz Attack and Riverbottom Nightmare will all be available to hand your ass to your face, or the other way around. I haven’t seen Rick Servidio’s new Riverbottom Nightmare yet, and it’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen Muppetz. Enticing. Doors at 8, the ass-handing starts at 9. The cover is typically $5 at the door, but always check the promoter’s page for details. I’m not super accurate sometimes. Shut up.
Behind door number 2 is One Heavy Night of Music at Live at 212 in Westbrook (212 Brown St, if you’ve never been there. Why haven’t you been there, asshole?). This little shindig is being put on by Port City Promotions, and ho-ly hell it looks like funnnn. Prepare your loins. Juboybe, Inside The Wires (MA), Weapons At Hand, Seize The Vatican (this show doubles as their CD release party. Get ready for “Advent of Annihilation”) and Chaos Machine. Um, holy shit snacks. Doors at 6, face-melting at 7. Drink specials will be served up by the lovely Jasmyn, and as always, no cover at the door.
Last, but not least, is Burning Time making their debut at Jewel Music Venue in Manchester, NH this Friday, March 10th. If you’re up for a little road trip, these guys are worth it. They won that little battle of the bands I was talking about. They opened the main stage at Rise Above Fest last August, and their debut album “This Is One” is simply phenomenal. They’ll be joined by Pistol Shot Gypsy, Shred of Salvation, and headliners Leaving Eden. This will be a kick ass rock show. $8 advance, $12 day of show. Doors at 7, musica starts at 8.
Much excite. I’ll see ya this weekend with horns held high, bub!
